Emmanasu Thangam: First half updates
An aimless
villager falls in love with the daughter of the man, who wants to take revenge
on the former's entire village. The hero and his friend are once again young
men with no work and a terror to their village folk. For a change, instead of a
loosu ponnu, the heroine is a makku ponnu. How refreshing! But Udhayanidhi and
Nivetha Pethuraj are convincing and play their roles quite well. Soori's
one-liners bring a smile, though this isn't a hilarious performance.
The reason
behind the villain's motivation to take revenge on the village feels a bit
trivial, but the way the director treats it, as quite a serious one, gives the
narrative some focus. The character of the villain is quite different. He tries
to achieve his goals by doing good to the village, so that everyone will leave
and move to the city. And Parthiban is the right actor for such a role.
The songs
are speed-breakers, and the unimaginative picturisation only makes them a
greater drag. The film isn't exciting enough, but it manages to be engaging on
the whole.
