42 films
bear the brunt as FEFSI announces strike, again
In an
unexpected move, the Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI) has
announced an indefinite strike, with effect from yesterday, due to which the
production of Tamil films has been called off. Angamuthu Shanmugam, general
secretary of FEFSI, alleges that Tamil Film Producers' Council has been
inviting Visual Communication students to work in the various technical fields
in the film industry, because of which FEFSI will be affected.
He explains,
"FEFSI is an association which has been functioning since many years. This
move by the council is to make our organisation weak. We are conducting an
agitation on September 5 and will meet the concerned state minister for this.
For now, the shooting of 42 Tamil films, including big and small ones, has been
stalled. Even the pre-production and post-production work has been stopped as
part of the strike. The producers who are suffering due to the sudden strike
announcement should come forward and take appropriate measures."
